We have initiated a partnership with the Université Notre Dame d'Haïti (UNDH) to provide scholarships for 3-4 students this year. Haiti continues to address education governance and organization to enhance the capacity of many of its higher education institutions. UNDH has 9 campuses though Haiti, including schools of medicine, nursing, engineering and architecture. It is a clear step forward to support in-country education opportunities for students of Haiti. Director Monsignor Pierre will provide mentoring and guidance for our scholars during their education.
Current scholars Beachrhell and Esnel are thriving at their universities. Beachrhell is grateful for her engineering studies in DC, and has introduced us to Fondation Seguin in Haiti. Fondation Seguin connects Port-au-Prince youth to the wonders of nature in the Seguin Forest. Esnel amazes us with his dedication and maturity. He is excelling in his medical studies.
Robust partnerships are needed to channel the intrinsic power of Haiti’s people. We have been fortunate to support Sirona Cares on a Jatropha tree cultivation program. Sirona Cares in now engaged in an ambitious and exciting project to provide rural solar electricity to households in Saint Marc. Congratulations Sirona Cares on your truly transformative work in Haiti.
Successful projects abound in Haiti, despite perceived widespread insularity. Much work remains, and we can’t quickly impact many of the circumstances of the people of Haiti but we can continue to bring hope and steadfast resolve.
